Consular registration

Consular registration

Consular registration is an administrative procedure that concerns Algerian citizens residing regularly in a foreign country.

It is a prerequisite to benefit from certain services provided by diplomatic and consular representations, such as applying for a biometric passport and exercising the right to vote, among others.

The consular registration card is issued free of charge. It is valid for five (5) years; its renewal must be requested.

Individuals wishing to register for the first time must necessarily present themselves at the Algerian Embassy in Amman/ Jordan.

Documents required for the renewal of the registration card:

• Expired registration card.

• Proof of residence.

• Two (02) recent photos.

 

 

The consular re-registration

Re-registration is required for any national who relocates to the consular jurisdiction again, after obtaining a Certificate of Change of Residence (CCR) or following their removal from the registration file upon request. They must provide the same documents as those required for the first registration process.

Deletion from the consular register

In accordance with Article 36 of Presidential Decree No. 02-405 of November 26, 2002 on the consular service, particularly Articles 26 and 27, the deletion from the consular immatriculation registers is carried out in the following cases:

  • Death.
  • Final return to Algeria
  • Change of consular district.
  • On handwritten request requesting the cancellation.
  • Absence for more than 10 years.

Removal from the registration books leads to removal from the electoral roll during annual and exceptional revisions that allow for the electoral roll to be cleared.

 

Documents required for first registration

•    Application form duly completed and signed.

•    Algerian identification document (passport or national identity card).

•    Original birth certificate.

•    A certificate of Algerian nationality or an extract of the birth certificate accompanied by full copies of the birth certificates of the father and paternal grandfather.

•    A proof of residence (valid residence permit or a copy of the Jordanian ID card).

•    A proof of employment, school certificate, retiree card, or other relevant document, as applicable.

•    Four (04) recent passport photos.

•    Marriage certificate or a copy of the family booklet for married individuals.

 

TRANSFER OF FILE

The transfer of the consular file is necessary in case of change of residence, outside the registration district.

The request for transfer should be addressed to the Embassy of Algeria in Amman, and must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • The consular card issued by the Embassy or Consulate holding the file.
  • The residence permit for residents. For dual nationals, the Jordanian identity card or passport.
